Johannesburg - A 33-year-old man has been arrested for driving at 234km/h on the R21 near Nellmapuis on Sunday, Gauteng traffic police said.
Busaphi Nxumalo, spokesperson for the traffic police, said the man was arrested just before 11:00 on the offramp outside Pretoria driving a motorbike.
"He was travelling with his girlfriend on a Kawasaki.
"He claimed that he was rushing to his mother in Pretoria, who he said had had a panic attack," said Nxumalo.
The man was charged with reckless and negligent driving with an alternative charge of exceeding the general speed limit of 120km/h, Nxumalo said.
He was released on R1 000 bail and would appear in the Lyttleton Magistrate's Court soon.
